Officer Gene Knutti - 2B9 spent 21 years with the Montpelier Police Dept, leaving in May of 2006 to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. He has been active in the reserve program filling in at different times in 2007. Montpelier has been his home since 1976 and the Knutti Family's home since 1877. He graduated from Bear Lake High School in 1978. He and his wife, the former Marge Matthews have been married 25 years and they have 5 children. TaRhea, Jacob, Tessa, Michael and John. They have one grandson Boden Holjeson. He completed the Law Enforcement course at Idaho State University in 1984 and joined the police force in 1985. In 2006 he retired from the United States Navy Reserve as a Chief Petty Officer after 24 years of service. His service in the Navy Reserve has taken him all over the world, Guam, Japan, Australia and Hawaii. He was activated after 9/11 and was stationed at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island where he was a Security Police Officer. Knutti was again activated in 2003 during the start of the Iraqi War and was sent to Naval Support Activity LaMaddalena, Sardinia where he spent 3 months with the security detachment. While with the Montpelier Police he held POST basic and intermediate certificates, and was the Breath Testing Specialist for about 14 years. When he left the Police Dept in 2006 he held the rank of Sergeant. He looks forward for the opportunity to serve the citizens of Montpelier and working with the members of the Montpelier Police Dept.
